"What did she just do?" Jon said, moving forward and nearly tripping as the carpet vanished, revealing the floors beneath it.
He grabbed at the door handle and entered the hallway, which looked to him like what he'd imagined an acid trip might look like. The floor appeared to be rolling...Or rather, the carpet was vanishing, replaced by wooden floors and a runner...the walls looked to be melting, as a new color slowly filled them. Jon slowly moved forward amidst the waves of disorientation the transforming space gave him, step by step toward the opposite end of the hall. The house had four bedrooms and two baths on the second floor. When his parents found out about having a third child, his parents had extended the second story above the garage, adding an extra bedroom and second bathroom at the end of the hall. He remembered the fights about it his parents had. His mom had changed her mind half a dozen times. First she wanted to make it a master suite and move there..then she wanted to stay where she was and put a more modest bedroom there to save money, then back to master suite, then...
He was starting to feel a serious sense of vertigo as the walls settled down, and the floor stopped pitching, but other things were still shifting.
He finally reached his mother's room and opened it, pulling himself in as if onto dry land....land where things were not exactly stable either. "It's scary out there," he remarked, feeling out of breath.
