The stone glowed and the air in the lunch room seemed to shimmer, but just for a few seconds. The only thing that seemed to change was Sarah. Or rather, her clothes. Now she wore a baggy sweatshirt and jeans, very much like the type of clothing Karyn usually wore. All of her pink make-up and jewelry were also gone.
"Do you feel any different?" Jon asked Sarah.
"No, not really. I mean, except for my new wardrobe."
"Okay, then. It worked."
"Not so fast, Jon. Sarah, you need to test it out."
"What do you mean?"
"Go talk to one of your cheerleader friends."
"Oh, right." Sarah got up and left the table.
Jon leaned over to Karyn. "You know it worked. Why are you making her do that?"
"I just want her to get a feel of what to expect for the rest or her life, that's all," Karyn answered. Part of her looked forward to seeing Sarah getting pushed around and picked on, even though she knew that Sarah had turned over a new leaf and wasn't the same Sarah she had known for the last several years.
