Jon headed to the mall to find Karyn. When he got there he met up with her and they walked aimlessly around the mall while Jon told her of his new discovery.
“Huh. So I guess that the wishes aren’t necessarily permanent after all.” Karyn said. “We just have to remember to give ourselves an out. This gives us a lot to work with.” They continued to walk around the mall, exploring different stores while discussing different wishes that they wanted to try. After a while, Jon felt the call of nature.
“Hey, Karyn, I need to use the restroom real quick.” They headed down towards one of the mall’s restrooms. Karyn was heading for the waiting area, when a thought occurred to her. She ran up to Jon, who was about to walk into the men’s room.
“Jon, let me see the rock real quick.”
“Okay…” Jon passed her the rock somewhat cautiously.
“Sorry, I’m just kind of curious. I wish that for the next 5 minutes, it was okay for me to use the men’s restroom.” Jon looked at her with a look of confusion. “Come on, let’s go.” She pocketed the rock and hurried off, ignoring his expression. They both entered the men’s restroom, passing some men on the way in, who didn’t give Karyn a second glance. Karyn looked around and headed for a stall, with Jon going for a urinal. After they had both done their business and washed their hands, they headed back out.
“Hey, what was that about?” asked Jon.
“What?” Karyn said, trying to hide the bit of embarrassment she felt. “I was curious about what they were like. You can’t tell me that you aren’t the least bit curious.” It was Jon’s turn to be embarrassed.
“I - …Well um…”stammered Jon, starting to blush.
“Maybe next time we can reverse it.” Karyn said teasingly. “Though, there really isn’t much of a difference. Well, apart from the obvious. Still, an interesting experience.” They headed back out and stopped into Gamestop. Karyn went off to look at a few new releases and Jon went over to look at some computer parts. After a few minutes, Karyn walked up to Jon with a sly look on her face.
“You know, prom season is coming up. Do you want to go dress shopping with me?” Karyn examined Jon’s face to see if he picked up on her double meaning.
“I mean I guess I could go with you if you want, but don’t you have some girl friends that you’d want to go with?” Jon asked, trying to focus on the keyboard he was holding. “Besides, it’s not like…” he paused for a second. “I even asked you…to go to prom…with me.” He felt too awkward to look at her. Karyn took the keyboard from his hands and set it back on the shelf.
“Jon, I know this isn’t some big promposal that some people might get, but would you go with me to prom?”
“Sure.” Jon said, his voice cracking.
“Great! Let’s go try on some dresses.” Karyn said, leading him out of the store and down to the pop-up prom dress shop, Jon still in a bit of a daze. Karyn pulled the rock out of her pocket as they went along. She did her best to keep the rock hidden so that other people wouldn’t notice the flash from the rock granting her wish. But the flash brought Jon back to earth. Catching up to Karyn, Jon stopped her.
“Hey, I saw that. What did you wish for?”
“I put a time limit on it. Don’t worry about it.” Karyn replied, trying to brush him off. She rushed into the dress shop.
