The commercial ended, and the show returned. His mother, in black and white, sat at a desk in some sort of office, with a 50s haircut, straight on the sides, and curled at the edges. She seemed to be typing up something on a typewriter. The phone rang. "Stone Detective Agency," she said.
"That's my line," his new companion exclaimed.
"Mr. Stone is out right now, can I take a message?" his mother said, before writing it down. "I'll give him the message as soon as he returns." She hung up the phone. "Boss," she called into the inner office. "How long are you going to be out? I've taken three messages so far."
Jane opened the door, revealing Dan Stone, private investigator, looking like he needed a shave. "I thought I told you that I had to lay low for a couple of days," he told her.
"So you're hiding in your office? With your name on the door?"
Rebecca sank down into the couch. "He doesn't even notice I'm gone," she said.
Jon sat next to her. "Look...she doesn't seem to realize anything is different, or she'd be screaming and asking him who he is. I bet he doesn't realize it either. So...if we fix this, everything will go back to normal. Maybe...I hope..." he said.
Rebecca was peeled to the screen, watching Jane try and coax the PI out of his office. "I never talk to Mr. S like that..." she said.
Jon sighed. Clearly, she wasn't paying attention to him.
