Jon flipped the page over hesitantly at looked at the lightly scrawled wish on the back side of the page.
"I wish Aggie had to get the worst ugly braces for her teeth."
As the flash of the wish washed over the pair, nothing much seemed to change. Sarah continued to strut away into the distance, Karen still loomed over the shorter Aggie, and nothing felt different to Jon. Until... she ran her tongue across her teeth. They were atrocious! Her previously straight white teeth were a train wreck in his mouth, and even talking felt a bit awkward at the new change.
"Oh my god, Jon I'm so sorry. I should have kept a closer eye on her. This was such a great idea."
He clenches his fists. "We'll find a way to get her!" he nearly cries out at her slowly shrinking form. Karen wraps an arm around him, then begins to guide him down the path. "We can always skip today, you know, if you want." She laughs wryly. "I think we deserve it."
A text buzzes in Jon's pocket, and as he skims it, he looks up to Karen and shows her the phone. "It looks like I'm skipping anyway."
It reads "Sweetie Marie, did you forget? Today's your appointment with the Dentist. Where are you? I'll pick you up! So happy for you <3 <3. ~Mom"
He texts her back and looks up to Karen. "Just skip today Karen, you shouldn't have to do this alone. I'm sure we can work another deal, a better deal with Sarah tomorrow! Maybe mom won't mind if you come with us today. I'll convince her to take us to the mall."
Karen nods, wanting to push back against this forced change of plans, but knowing the power of a wish, relents. "No, I'm not going to run from my life. I'm not going to give up just because some narcissistic witch wants to ruin our lives. I'm going to go. And we can be both be miserable today!" She laughs. "I already can't wait for this day to be over... I'll meet you at your place after school to hang out..."
Jon nods. "I think we'll both need it!"
