"I wish my mom forgets she had an issue with my shoes."
"There! That should do it."
Meanwhile downstairs, Jane was still looking at her son's supposed shoes. "I remember buying these pumps, they were the most comfortable shoes for a day at the office, every other one left my feet sore. How did they get so big?"
Taking off her sneakers and socks, she slipped her feet in the pumps and tried walking around in them. She felt embarrassed, like she was a little kid again when she used to wear her mother's heels to pretend she was a big girl. Taking them off, she made her way to her bedroom, still not believing that her shoes were gone, swapped with male sneakers.
Opening the door, however, revealed that she wasn't crazy, the sneakers were all still there. She then started to analyze them closely, they looked a lot like the shoes Jon wears, even some of his flip-flops were there! But they couldn't be his, they were too small for his feet.
Jane then took a pair of soccer shoes, something that she was sure she had bought for Jon to wear in soccer training, and tried wearing them. She was surprised at how well they fit and how comfortable they were. The shoes were very rigid and resilient, while leaving room for her feet to breathe and feel relaxed.
"These aren't as bad as I had thought" Remarked Jane. She then started thinking about how she hadn't really noticed how the sneakers didn't really bother her. In fact, they were actually pretty good for doing house chores; her usual choice of footwear left her feet aching at the end of the day, but with these, they were still comfortable enough to run a marathon.
While putting the soccer shoes back in the wardrobe, someone started knocking on the door: "Mom, can I come in?"
"I'm glad you're here dear and I'm sorry for my little outburst earlier. You can take your pumps back"
"Mom I said you could have those, I have plenty of shoes to use, one or two won't make a difference." Said Jon in a relieved tone, glad his mother was now fine. "If you want you can go with me and dad shopping for new shoes when he comes back from abroad, maybe we can even get some for you now that you have new interests"
"Shoe shopping with his dad? Mark had never done that with Jon" Jane thought. But seeing how questioning Jon about it wouldn't lead to anything, she simply smiled and accepted the offer.
Jon was ecstatic about it, and while his dad was always happy to go with him, Mark had no idea about fashion, so it was mostly up to him to find some pretty shoes.
Leaving the stone on the bedside table, he then went to hug his mom and say goodnight.
