Reaching her locker, she entered her combination into the lock and opened the door. Suddenly, she froze. The inside of the locker seemed different to her. "Huh?"

"Um, Sarah? This isn't your locker," said Tiffany from behind her.

Sarah's mind raced. Quickly, she snatched up a familiar book and closed the door. Cracking open the textbook, she noted the name on the cover before shutting it. "I know," she said with forced calm as she turned towards her own locker. "Karyn borrowed my math book. We have the same math class, you know. I'm just taking it back."

"Since when do you let that loser borrow your stuff? And how did you find out her combination?"

Tossing her hair with affected nonchalance, Sarah explained. "I just wanted to. And I found out her combination months ago when we pulled that prank with the soda. Remember?"

Tiffany nodded. "Oh yeah. Wow, you've got a good memory!"

"That's what Biff says whenever we have an argument, 'cause I can always tell him exactly what he did wrong," Sarah laughed. By now, she had recovered from her mistake, telling herself that it had been a freak accident, nothing more. She opened her own locker and dumped Karyn's book inside. Not like the girl would be needing it today anyway. Secretly, she placed the wishing rock behind her books, also. "Really, though, I didn't know my memory was that good either. But I can recall every detail: the combination, how we rigged the door, everything."

Tiffany giggled. "I remember Karyn's scream when the soda soaked her shirt. What a riot!"

Out of nowhere, Sarah felt a flash of anger. Slamming her locker, she flounced towards her first class. "It took her days to get the fruity smell out of her locker," she said, her voice devoid of amusement. "And that shirt was a birthday present from her mom, too."

The other girl kept giggling. "Yeah, that was priceless."

Sarah quickened her stride, trying to hide her sudden annoyance. Was Tiffany always so immature? The prank had been amusing, but it was crude, unsophisticated, hardly worth more than a chuckle. She felt almost embarrassed that she had gotten the entire squad in on it. In fact, she could almost imagine that she felt sorry for Karyn, the girl having to be the victim of such an asinine little hoax.
