People asking questions would be bad for us. Who knew if there were Sages imbedded in the military!? Using it was not worth the risk. I took the big rifle with the electric bullets and the handgun with the toxic bullets. I was not that good with shotguns in combat. The grunts got their pick of the arsenal as well. Brett had his own stuff. Brett was a fairy that could use magic, so it was not a big deal if he went into the fight lightly armored. It did raise some eyebrows. There was no time like the present, so the 5 eager AEP units from Sixteenth Notes Clan crowded around Dawg. Us humans went to 13-001. Were were teleported to the coordinates of the transmission hub. Only a second passed before the alarm went off. 13-001 and Dawg teleported to get a couple of crates for more ammo. The rest of us had to get ready. Us humans had to stay firm and protect all of the AEP units here. They had to hack the transmission hub to make it flip to the Advocate faction. Parker, Kyan, Chase, Rebecca and Hannah were already approaching it. When 13-001 and Dawg returned, they put their crates down.
Both of them joined the others at the biomechanical terminal. All 7 of them plugged in and sat down in front of it. Being bathed in that pulsing red light throughout the big emptiness of the open room was really unsettling. We could hear creaking from somewhere above us. "They're coming. Get ready men!" Major Watts called out. Things I was unsure of did not matter. It was time to fight. I was not going to let my clanmates down. Brett was right next to me. Just like I thought, there were PEP units that were charging straight at us. At the end of 3 football fields in length, there was a long, metal ladder. It was the only place lit with fluorescent lights. About 2 football fields away from the ladder, there was a cut off where a single 10 yard wide bridge stretched towards us here. It was a massive moat with churning liquid bellow. We learned from the transmission hub in the Magnetic Clan's domain that it was not water. The terminal was on a wide semicircle above the liquid below. Behind the terminal was the end wall. A pulsating mass of biometal lined it and seemed to meld into the alien terminal.
Firing the guns grounded me a bit. It seemed that there were some PEA units already in the complex because they were at the end of the first wave. That was not really supposed to come so soon. Their shots were way more accurate and killed one of the grunts with us. That was sad. Brett and I got rid of them quickly. They could be a real problem. We had a few minutes of quiet before the next wave came down. In that time, Brett and I used our magic to heal everyone. We topped everyone off at their full health just in time for the next wave. This was where the bulk of the PEA units of the region came. They were more challenging. The second grunt was killed here. It was a shame. We were actually pinned down at our defensive positions at the end of the bridge. We barely had time to pop our guns over the railing before hailstorms of bullets came our way. Obviously, we were holding our side. They were not able to cross over to us without meeting certain death. This was pretty intense. It was also fine with us. We needed to hold on until the transmission hub flipped. Attacker advantage.
