Karyn looked down and spotted a necklace lying on the floor. Picking it up, she saw that it was a cross necklace. Obviously belonging to Nadine, but how had it fallen off of the church-girl's neck?
"Is that yours?" Nadine asked.
That was odd. Why would Nadine ask that? But what was even odder was Karyn's own reaction. "It ... is," she said, then found herself putting it around her own neck. Why was she doing that? It was like she was compelled to do it by some unknown force. She looked down, seeing the small cross resting on her T-shirt, looking totally out-of-place, yet ... for some reason, looking kind of familiar, as if she had normally worn it around her neck.
Shaking her head, putting these strange feelings aside, she grabbed hold of Nadine's shoulder, saying "Come on, I think you should go see the nurse."
"But I don't feel bad," Nadine said. Her eyes wandered for a second, then said "Oh, there it is," before bending over and picking something up off the floor. "I thought I might have lost that."
Karyn stared at the object. It definitely didn't look like something a girl like Nadine would have, or want. Then again, since when did Karyn want to wear a cross necklace?
