Karyn looked around, confused. Jon had been standing right next to her. But, suddenly, he was nowhere to be found. She seemed to have more presence of mind than those around her, who were all scattered, looking dazed. She felt a bit odd, but she supposed whatever wish Jon had made to protect her from his previous wish had worked.
She looked down. What happened to my jumper? She wondered. She had taken it off when they got inside and was holding it. It was gone.
She noticed people starting to struggle to get up. She offered the closest one a hand. It turned out to be Nadine Ferguson. "Are you all right?" Karyn asked.
Nadine rubbed her head. "I'm not sure...It feels like...something's wrong."
"Maybe we should get you to the nurse," Karyn said. She wasn't Nadine's biggest fan, but that didn't mean she was going to ignore her.
"I'm fine, I just need to..." Nadine trailed off.
The PA system roared to life. "Attention everyone...I...don't know what just happened...but...if anyone is seriously injured, please report to the nurse's office. For everyone who just fell over...that happened to everyone...please report to your first period class while we all try to figure this out."
"Whose that?" Karyn asked.
"The Principal, I think..."
"The principal, I think," Nadine said.
"That was a female voice," Karyn said.
Nadine blinked. "Are you sure the principal isn't a woman?" She said, confused. "That announcement, sounded like the principal."
Mr. Davison was most definitely not a woman. He was a fairly uptight, strict, middle aged man. "Okay, I'm taking you to the nurse," Karyn said.
"What about all these other people?" Nadine said. "I mean, why just me?"
Karyn shook her head. "Fine...do you remember your name?"
"Nadine. If you think I have a concussion or something....I think you are supposed to ask if I feel nauseous," Nadine said. "And I don't."
Other people nearby were also getting to their feet and murmuring about what was happening.
