“Can I... help you?” Karyn asked.
“Yeah, my phone died and I need to call my mom. God she’s so annoying but I’d rather have her off my back. Could I borrow yours?” Zoe wanted to just shove her way inside, but she really didn’t a confrontation right now.
Karyn shrugged, her blonde hair bouncing off her shoulders, and let the girl in. “Landline’s in the kitchen. I’m Karyn Gibson, I think we go to school together?”
“Zoe Black.” She said dialing the phone. “Mom? Yeah, I’m fine! God, my phone died okay? I stopped at a schoolmate’s house to call you. No don’t-! Ugh!” Zoe turned to Karyn. “My mom wants to pick me up, what’s your address?” Karyn rattled it off absentmindedly and Zoe repeated it over the phone.. “Yeah, fine. I’ll wait on the sidewalk in plain view if they kick me out. Yeah yeah... love you too.”
Karyn smirked. “She wants you to stay until she picks you up?”
“She is so annoying!”
“You think parents are annoying, try being confused for Sarah McMillian because of these.” She gestured to her hair and chest. “I git Biff suspended yesterday because he slapped my ass thinking I was her!”
The two girls burst out laughing, Karyn leading them into the living room just as Jon walked downstairs. “Hey Kare, who’s this?” He was pretty sure his twin sister (extremely fraternal) wasn’t close friends with any Goths.
“Zoe Black. Had to use your phone.” Zoe hesitated before reaching out her hand to shake (even non-conformists are polite) and Jon accepted it. There was a flash of light.
