While watching her work through the problems in her textbook, Jon spent several minutes brainstorming what to do next with Melissa. He decided to make her develop a crush on him but wondered how exactly he could do that. He thought about it for a moment before it dawned on him that he could probably write a new entry in her diary to make it seem like she was developing feelings for him. Since she wouldn't notice anyway, Jon got to work hunting for her diary right away, hoping that she even had one. He knew that girls her age usually did keep diaries to record their thoughts in.
Finally he found it under her bed, hidden from prying eyes by a loose floorboard. He went to open it before realizing that it was secured by a combination lock on the edge. Jon puzzled over how he could possibly guess the code before an obvious solution dawned on him: he handed the book to Melissa. She seemed confused for a moment before she started spinning the dials to open it up. She had entered the code 7461
. Jon committed it to memory before taking back the diary from her hands and quickly replacing it with another school textbook, chemistry this time.
As Melissa worked through the next part of her homework, Jon busied himself opening up her diary to the last page she wrote in it. He scanned through it before finding a place where he could add his own entry without making it seem too obvious that it wasn't her writing style. He began to write a new entry for her:
Dear diary,
Today in English class Jon sat behind me in our group project. We got to work together, and wow he smelled so good! He has such cute brown hair, and those deep brown eyes! He’s so cute! He kept looking at me, too! Maybe he likes me too!?
Below it, he doodled a heart with Jon’s name inside it and "XOXO" beside it. He looked back over at Melissa, still diligently working on her chemistry problems, before sliding the diary between her and her work, the journal still open to Jon's most recent entry.
Her eyes glazed over a bit before she task switched and started reading the entry. Meanwhile, Jon busied himself by grabbing Mellissa's phone. He scrolled through her contacts until he found "Jon" listed there. They had been made to share contact info during the group project, much to Melissa's horror, at the time. He smiled to himself before he began typing a text message to himself: "Hey Jon, what r u doing? Wanna hang out?". He hit send before putting it back in her hands and watching as she read it. He noticed her cheeks flush a bit as she realized how forward "she" was being. As she read it, Jon was already busy with his own phone formulating a reply.
His work complete, Jon slipped out of her room and closed the door behind him before going back down the hallway. Perhaps he could find another door of interest, or perhaps he should just return to his own room and relish in his accomplishments for a bit while he texts with Melissa.
