Meanwhile, speaking of Robert....he had gone to lie down for 15 minutes... Maybe Mollie was right, he was wound up for no good reason.
He kicked off his shoes and sat down on the edge of the small bed. He set the old digital alarm clock next to the bed, leaned back, and just laid there. Everything felt peaceful for a moment...and then another moment...Robert could feel the tension ebbing. For the first time that day, he wasn't focused on keeping the house in order and getting things done, and his mind was free to think of other things before drifting into a light doze.
The alarm began to beep, drawing Robert out of whatever he'd been thinking. He rose up, feeling better after the brief rest. He slipped the shoes back on, and headed to the mirror, grabbing a brush to fix his hair. He paused as he noticed his skin tone had darkened from what had looked tan to much more of a chocolate. But, he looked neat and professional, as he should, so he would have to deal with it. He gave his hair a quick brush, fixed his uniform, and headed out to check on things.
He turned the corner, and nearly ran into Zoe, who was escorting Karyn, dripping slightly and wrapped in a towel. "Excuse me, is there a place she can wash up and change?"
Robert looked at the drops of water in a path from the back door. He would need to get a mop. But, feeling a lot more relaxed about it at the moment. "I will show you," he said, his accent growing thicker.
"Thanks," Zoe replied.
He escorted them up to one of the bathrooms. Is that teenager checking me out? First Mollie, now this one...I suppose I have lost some weight recently...
Zoe was looking, but it was more wondering what Robert used to look like.
"Leave the towel here when you are done, I will put it in the wash."
"Thank you," the smaller of the two chirped.
"Pas de souci," Robert said. "I take care of things here." He turned to leave.
"What does that mean?" Karyn asked Zoe.
"Probably you're welcome or something," Zoe whispered.
"Something like that," Robert said, exiting.
