As Lauren was finishing getting dressed across town another young woman was rising. Lonna had just switched off her now familiar alarm. She wanted to turn round and pull the covers back over herself but she knew that she could not do so. A few minutes later she was in the shower slowly waking up. She caught a glimpse of something in the mirror that looked different but she was not sure what.
“Lonna I need to go in to work earlier than usual this morning so I am leaving now. see you tonight sweetheart” Mrs Rodriguez shouted from the kitchen downstairs but got no reply. She must be in the shower the woman thought as she left the house to catch the bus. Lonna got out of the shower a few minutes later and sat down at the vanity to finish drying her hair.
Once it was completely dry that was when she noticed it. Her hair was now brown instead of its usual black and she was sure it was shorter as well. Not by much she thought but it was definitely shorter. It was the first real change that she had noticed since the Monday morning when all this had started. She looked at herself closer than she usually did. She was sure that she was slightly taller than normal. She put a robe on and went to see if there was anything that she could find that would confirm this.
A few minutes later she found her passport. She usually was 156 cm (5ft 1in) but now it read 165 cm (5ft 4in). She was now four inches taller somehow. She came to the same conclusion that Lauren had the other day that the stone that had caused them to switch lives was obviously still working on them. Realizing that she could do nothing about it at that moment she went back to getting dressed.
Today she had picked a casual turtleneck maroon sweater that perfectly complemented her figure. She paired this with a pair of brown leather trousers adding an edgy contrast to the soft texture of the sweater. It was not exactly the look she was going for but it worked.
Not bad for someone who was 28 she thought. At least, whatever was going only she still had her sense of style confidently blending classic elements with contemporary trends as she always did. She went to put on what little makeup that she thought she needed. Some mascara, eyeliner, and lipstick. She almost dropped the mascara brush when she saw her eyes close up. Her normal almond-shaped eyes were gone, replaced with a more rounded pair. It wasn’t that she didn’t like them it just looked weird to her, again not much she could do about she needed to talk to Lauren to see what changes she had noticed.
She had found the note that had been left for her letting her know why Mrs Rodriguez was not there to meet her that morning. She stopped halfway through the school gates a short time after leaving the house.
Why had she thought that she was 28 that was not how old she had been at the start of the week she was now seven years younger well at least there was some upside to this she thought with a slight smile on her face. She looked over towards the teacher's parking and she saw her old car there in its usual parking space.
How lucky was Lauren to drive a car like that even if she had not bought it. She would love to drive it. Wait a minute it was her car or it had been two weeks ago before she had put it in to be repaired. She had to speak to Lauren as soon as she could but how could she do so without making it seem weird?
