That sounded much more like the Susan McMillan she knew, but Sarah was extremely confused. Her mother was awake before late morning, sober(which she wasn't always after a night out), and acting like...someone else's mother. Susan poured her a bowl of cereal. At least her mother hadn't turned into some sort of homemaker.
"Did you do your homework?"
Sarah paused. "Yes," she said. Well, she'd done some before all this. And even if she didn't, this seemed like something she should say to get out of here as quickly as possible.
"Really? When I was a few years older than you, I thought I was going to be an actress...I even had a few jobs...then reality set in," Susan said. "You can try for things like that...but if it doesn't work out...you need a fallback plan." Susan sounded particularly bitter about that...it didn't seem like her mother was that different personality wise...
But Susan's plans had worked out. Susan had ended up as a model if not an actress, married, and become a rich socialite. Only...whoever those strange men had...changed it somehow, or something...she wasn't sure. This made no sense. She wanted to scream, but she wasn't stupid. She needed to get out of here and figure this out...was this real, a dream? Was the rest of the world different also? Who could she trust?
