Lonna arrived at school around half an hour later and passed by (Totally by accident of course, if anyone asked her) The classroom in which she used to teach. Only this time she did not see Lauren standing inside it. Instead, she found Moira Kane one of the other chemistry teachers the school employed the one that would normally teach Lauren after the amendments to the schedules that Mary had arranged to stop any more problems between Lonna and Lauren.
“It's ok Lonna you don’t have to sneak past this morning.” Ms Kane told her. “Why is that Ms Kane?” Lonna asked the friendly teacher in reply. “Ms Rodriguez won’t be in till later. She has some errands of her own to run, so I have her class this morning. If you like I am returning the favor she did me yesterday by taking my class for me.” Ms Kane told her. “Oh right, thanks Ms Kane I will see you in class tomorrow.” Replied the teacher as she moved past the room towards the lockers at the bottom of the corridor. Errands what errands? She thought to herself as she opened the locker with her name on it put the book bag from her shoulder and placed it inside. She then locked it and with nothing else that she could do until she was able to meet up with Lauren, she made her way to her first class of the day.
A short time later although to Lonna it seemed an eternity she left Mrs Dunsmuir’s English class why did for the second day in a row her morning as a student start with Mrs Dunsmuir? She was sure that someone up there must hate her. Mrs. Dunsmuir was not the worst teacher in the school but she failed to notice that her students did not share her excitement over Wordsworth. Lonna had tried to tell her that before after one of their classes but she did not seem to believe her. Wait that wasn’t her could it have been Lauren?
What was happening now? Somehow she had accessed one of Laurens’ memories but she had thought it was one of her own she needed to speak to Lauren. Lonna remembered what Ms Kane had told her that she would not be in till later so that would have to wait. After exchanging the books she was carrying for another one from the locker she sat in the geography class of Kevin Greene. A relatively young teacher, he was only 25 years old as opposed to her age of 30 years old. Then again what was 5 years between colleagues except now he wasn’t a fellow teacher. He was her teacher but he did look kind of cute now she thought about.
As she sat there she thought about the night before and how friendly that Mrs Rodriguez had been to her. She did see her as her daughter and not as some kind of pretender. Then she remembered what else she had done the night before. She had read Laurens’ diary that she had found in her closet. That must have been where she had seen what Lauren had said to Mrs Dunsmuir. Yeah, that must have been it. She was not gaining her memories she had simply remembered what said had read and had gotten confused. She did have a lot on her mind at the moment. By the time the lesson had ended, she had convinced herself that was what had happened.
She had now reached the part of Tuesday morning that she liked the most a free period. Unlike how Lauren usually spent this time Lonna was on her way to the school library to see if there was anything she could find out about the stone. As she walked through the doors she saw Mrs Sheppard standing at her usual spot behind the desk. “I don’t see you here that often Ms Tran, How can I help you?” Mrs Sheppard asked her. “I have a paper due on urban legends I was hoping to find out if you had anything on one in particular,” Lonna replied. “Oh yes, which legend might that be?” The librarian asked her. “It's something called The Switching Stone but I am not sure you would have anything about it,” Lonna told her laying down a challenge to the adult without saying the words. With a look on her face as if to say we will see about that. “I am sure I read something about that somewhere. Let me have a look back in a moment dear.” Mrs Sheppard said heading back to her office to look for information to help Lonna with her paper.
Lonna knew that Mrs Sheppard did not like to admit defeat about anything. She had boasted to teachers and students alike that her library was the best-stocked library in the local school system and that what she didn’t have in stock she would get. This was one of the occasions that being considered a student had been helpful to her. She knew that if Lauren had come to ask her the same question in her current role as a teacher she wouldn’t have gotten the same results. Mrs. Sheppard came back and told her that there were not many books written about this stone but she had managed to find one or two books. She didn’t have them in stock just now but they would be in by Friday and come back and see her then. Lonna thanked the woman as she left. Well better than nothing she thought as she continued to her last class of the morning and after that to lunch.
