Omegas did not get that much. They just stood where they were seated at the very back of the graduating class "for recognition". No one clapped except for the few beta parents of omega children and defiantly "liberal" omega parents in the crowd. And me of course. They were soon glared down by the alphas in the crowd. I was not. I yelled for them and said each of the names of the omegas in our group. By graduation time, we had a good nine of them with us. We had a bit more but they graduated the year before. I did the same thing for them when they graduated. The omegas did not even get their diplomas today. They would be mailed to them within a month. It was yet another example of omega discrimination. Noel and Hunter got to see everyone else in the group get their time in the spotlight. Noel got to see his parents stand up and give him a little cheer before they were quieted. He was beaming like he just won an award for peak scholastic achievement. The same was true for Hunter. After their closing remarks, the alphas and betas got to throw their caps up high into the air.
The omegas did not get any. We were lucky that we got to have their dark robes. Luckily, I had a lot of money. We about enough caps for them too. They could not wear them on their heads, but they snuck them in under their long black robes. The put them on and moved the cord from the sides along with the alphas and betas. Everyone could see them do this and were shocked. This was a level of defiance totally unheard of in this town. I did not know this was how it all went down last year, so we did not prepare. Now we knew better. There were gasps and growls all over the venue. We were in our school gym. They were roughly escorted out. by faculty members. It was our cue to leave as well. Sheldon, Harry, Gerald and I did not wait for the procession we just left the crowd and walked out after them. Liam, Sam and James were all sitting with the other alphas and alpha faculty. It would be much harder for them to get up and leave. With that in mind, I told them to stay for the full thing. It was a really important day for them. Their betas had already shown our defiance and protest here.
Fighting the systems of oppression took many forms. One of the best forms of revenge was living well. Now that we had left the gym, we had some time to kill outside. To wait in the cold was a bit demeaning, but the company of our friends made time go by a bit quicker. We got to gloat about the looks on their faces. When the graduation was finally over, we got to celebrate with their families. I was not invited to the restaurant with the twins' parents this time. Hunter pulled me to the side after a very brief moment with his mother. "Come with us." he said to me as he dragged me over by the hand. I went over. Hunter was still my boyfriend. Celebrating with them now made sense. Everyone else had plans as well. Because I got the fear of missing out, I readily accepted the offer. It was just one meal together. They treated me warmly. We ate and talked about what I was thinking about for the future. I honestly did not know how much time was left in the session. Due to that, I really had no plans. Hunter's mom said that I had time. Figuring things out was not the problem. Their world was ending.
