Having the walk allowed us to look at the state of this environment. We were in a small town. This was not the former capitol of their kingdom. This was 4 hour's travel by train. There was a small, dilapidated manor a little bit out the outskirts of town. Gawther led us there. We were brought to the wooden door and told that this was where the fallen noble Embereye Family lived. We were let in by other servants. Once we were let in, we were sent into the main hall of their manor where I saw them. The 4 of them were standing around and waiting for me. I walked in front of them and nodded my head to them. "Lord Embereye, I, Wraxix Wreck have humbly come to take the position of your court mage. Thank you for granting me this great opportunity. I will not let you down." I said. The elder one gave a wry smile and said "Yes yes. I am glad to have the leader of your coven answer to us directly." We introduced each other to our families. Xander had his 3 sons. Their names were Gabriel, Ansell and Jermyn. I told them about all 8 of my kids. They were a bit jealous at the large size of my family.

Questions were posed on both sides. Now that we had joined forces together, what would we do? We had to find out how we would be able to raise their position. I had a new quest line. Because the civil war disposed all the native aristocracy, the duchy had become a de facto theocracy. The various followings of the gods conferred all of the power here. For the Embereye Family to rise, they would either need to join the system or overcome it. It would be a big decision. Seeing as all of them were trained warriors, it probably would not be too hard for them to be able to join some order of paladins and rise through their ranks. On the other hand, it could just be tactful to go against a specific order and use the chaos as a long ladder to climb. I decided against it because that would be a bit too hard. There were only 4 of them. If we lost any of them in battle, things would get even worse for our position. Joining a paladin order would be great. There were many other deities that they all could pledge to. There was one that was in the local area. It was Fharlanghn, the god of horizons and travel.

As good a choice as any. Fharlanghn reigns on the roads and offers security, good fortune and favorable weather to travelers who pray. As such, he is also considered by many to be the god of quests that require a long journey. Fharlanghn is the patron of those who travel long distances, whether on the surface or in the Underdark. His symbol is often seen in inns and stables across the continent. Clerics of the Dweller on the Horizon travel to exotic lands, bless caravans, scout for armies, and record all their experiences for others to learn from. They act as translators and diplomats, and help in the construction of roads, bridges, and hard-wearing shoes. They wander frequently, and seldom it is that one would encounter the same group of priests ministering at the same shrine. Because the road is the best teacher, initiates are trained in the ways of Fharlanghn by being taken on long trips. They are dismissed if they ask when the journey will be over, because to the faithful of Fharlanghn, the journey never really ends. As long as they can, Walkers travel the world, all for new sensations.
