I would be a fool not to accept the offer of the Embereye Family. That would launch us all the way to the ninth coven level. And that was just if I was the only one. If other members took positions under his 3 kids, we would all be set at coven level 10 indefinitely. That would be amazing. I told the emissary that I accepted the offer. We would be given a monthly salary. One downside to this was that I would have to move to over Krepia. That was fine as I had a great family that would move with me. My job for the noble family would be to advise them in magical affairs and use my magic to help the family. I could do that. Being at coven level 9 gave us a 15% pay increase. This of course applied to my big salary too. With all the stacking, it was 30% more than an independent mage would be paid for their services. I was the head of the family. It was my right to tell them where we would be. Even more than the business or the coven in fact. With that in mind, we needed to establish a new branch of the guild over there. The emissary said there would be a big office set up for us there. It would work.
Vohrear was the only that I could trust with this branch in Rekha. I called him out to take a walk with me. He came out and we walked. Vohrear was smirking as if we were doing something naughty. When we made our way to the park, I told him about the emissary. He looked a bit concerned. "You turned that human down, right!? A big coven of over a score of fiends serving humans is stupid." he said. Vohrear clearly was against working with them. I just shook my head. "I think this is a very good opportunity for us. We will get money and prestige that even the other mages in the kingdom can't deny." I said. I then told him he would be in charge of the members in the Rekha. "From the very beginning, it was you and Nyrear that supported me in getting the spell book. If I am going to be all the way in Krepia, I need to know that the coven is in excellent hands. Will you take the role as the branch manager?" He looked at me blankly. "You are really too soft on everyone. If you appoint me, don't expect me to go easy on humans." he said. I pat him on the shoulder. "You'll do what's right."
Reminding him the humans of the coven had more than proven their worth here, Vohrear could not disagree. "As the manager, all of the members will look up to you for guidance, direction and protection. Xavier and his mother will be there to run the business smoothly, so you won't have to deal with that." Vohrear scoffed and said "I want them gone. Those stupid air elementals too!" I looked at him and said "The coven is the coven and the business is the business. I run both of them as the founder. I am giving you the coven members here. I still own the club and determine who works there." Sometimes you had to pull rank to let them know who really had the power in the situation. He pouted and tried to use puppy dog eyes. I was not falling for it this time. "Will you take the position, or not!? I came to you first because of my respect and care for you. There are other candidates I can go to. There are humans that have a higher adventurer rank than you." I pressed. He hissed and said "Fine! I'd rather die than be subservient to a human." That was a dig at me, but I did not care one bit.
Since that was resolved, it was time to tell the people concerned. Xavier and his mother were first. I told them about the offer and they were surprised. "Wait. Out of any other coven in the Mage's Guild, nobles picked you!?" he asked. I just smirked. "It's a very minor house of 4 members in Krepia. Real bottom of the barrel stuff. Totally pathetic." I said. "You seem happy about all of that. Why would you want to be employed by them?" his mother questioned. "Because, it is 4 humans and a coven largely staffed by incubi. Once we get them established as some lord somewhere, we will be their most trusted backers. We could even become nobles ourselves depending on how high we can get them as our puppets." She crossed her arms. I then told them that Vohrear would be appointed the manager of the coven members. "Do you really think that is a wise idea?" she asked. I shrugged. "It is the best option for me. He's loyal to me and has been with me since the beginning. Since he is a fiend, I would say humans might have a hard time. You 2 will be managers of the business side of this."
