We all had to go our separate ways, but many of us needed a train to do so. We walked to the train station together. It was Ororin and Nyrear's group that were going by bus. They left without a word. We were the second group out. Ohirora, Nymorin, Caranon and Zahrelon's train left the station half an hour before ours was ready to even board. I wished all the others good luck. Once the train got going, we were not to get off for 47 stops. It was a very long journey for us. It took an average of 38 minutes between each stop and it stayed in each station for 5 minutes. That meant we were on that train for over 33 hours in-game. Normally, I would have the incubi sit down the whole ride to keep them out of trouble. Even I could not sit still for that long. All of us had to get up and walk the length of the train just to have something to do. Fulko and Bertie were humans, so they spent a good amount of time in the dining car. We went with them. This trip was supposed to be all expenses paid. We still had to fork over the cash now. As long as we kept the receipts, we could have the guild reimburse us.
Once we finally got to our stop, we stumbled off the train. Pentora, Voxex and Wesez were not used to going over 24 hours without feeding. That was how successful all of them were. They were obviously not going to starve, but they were irritable and sluggish about this. We did not have the club here either. Unfortunately, it meant we were going to have to hunt at night while trying to solve this mystery in the daytime. That would be a challenge for us. The train station was not part of the town. We had more walking to do. But we did not have to walk. We flew the rest of the way there. Bertie and Fulko yelped in surprise when they were lifted into the air. Following the road, we could see the town. It was on the other side of a small branch of the river. I thought that the town was quaint with the majority of houses on the opposite side of the made from stone. There seemed to also be a public bathhouse right next to a natural hot spring. I looked at my party and said "We are all Bronze ranked members of the Adventurer's Guild so there is nothing to worry about here. We can walk right in now."
That was my hope anyway. We got on the bridge and walked across. I felt a chill run down my spine. Something felt off to me. Pentora, Voxex, Wesez were unsteady on their feet and looked like they were going to throw up in the river. They managed to hold it in for now, but we would need to find a place to rest soon. Like I had thought, there was a small welcoming party. It consisted of the village head, the head priest of the local temple, a pair of middle aged busybodies, the second son of the village head and 4 children. I smiled and asked if there was a place for us prepared. "My friends were sick ever since the train ride. They should lie down." I lied. It was a totally reasonable request, so the showed me to the home that we would be staying in. Apparently the family that used to live there had all bee wiped out. Normally I would complain that it was creepy, but we were fiends. I doubted that Pentora, Voxex or Wesez would care. Bertie and Fulko did not seem to mind either. Once we got them to lie down, it was up to the rest of us. There was a town to explore and testimonies to take.
