Even if neither brother ever managed to become a cleric, they would still be needed as the head priests of the temple. We needed to have the humans out front in order to hide the fiends' true nature from the general public. I wanted the secret to be in place for as long as possible. If we could make them clerics and get them all another soul lantern each, that would put them in a good position. After making sure that Jason and Owen could manage getting to their own rooms, I left the temple. Our coven was contracted for another mission. There were a string of murders that did not seem to be possible my mundane methods. We were to investigate and see if we could find the culprit. Once we did, we were to bring them to justice. It took us 2 weeks to figure it out. In the end, it was a pack of werewolves that had come in on the cleared roads. One of their younger, more brash members got robbed by a gang. He transformed and killed a couple of them. The others got away, but they needed to be killed because they saw his face. They wanted no witnesses to live. We had to go kill all 8 of them.

Xavier humbled me again when he came to visit. He told us that we could do more than simply register with the Adventurer's Guild online. They also had a big virtual job board. From there you could take on jobs close by to you. Once they were done, a representative from the guild would come down and ensure that it was completed to the quest giver's satisfaction. Due to that, we were also taking all sorts of jobs. Because we all were new, the missions available to us were mind numbingly simple and paid like shit. That was fine. We were making more than enough money as a club, dancing and fucking. The only thing we wanted was for us to get enough credit in the guild to rank up. It would give access to better paying jobs. There were 8 ranks for adventurers in the guild: coal, tin, copper, bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond. I did not care if we actually made it to the top, but it sucked being on the bottom rank. You needed 5 to rank up to tin. 15 was for copper. Bronze needed 30. 50 got you to silver. 75 missions brought you to gold. Platinum was after 105. Diamond was the peak: 140.

Spamming simple missions was not good enough for the upper ranks. Once you were eligible for bronze rank, you had to go through a confirmation by the guild. You had the choice between a long term assignment in a far off place or a duel with someone of the rank you wanted. Failure meant that you could not try again for another year in-game. Those low level missions were clearing out rats in the sewers, defeating bandits on the road, escorting the young and elderly from place to place in the city and a tone of fetch quests. Doing 2 per day that first week of using the internet already got us each to our 16th mission. Due to the simplicity of the missions, they only allowed one full party to take them. We had to split into 3 parties and go after these quests independently. Nothing was too crazy that we would ever need backup, so it was fine. We had to stop when Ororin went into labor. She and I both convinced Larry to have a private birth at home. There was no need for a hospital. This would be a full blooded incubus or succubus kid. Ororin was sated and strong enough to push them out.
