"Jenna? Are you up yet?" came the voice of Jon's mom (Linda).
Jon froze, hearing the voice, then immediately grabbed a random shirt to put on. It ended up being a halter top. A pink one too.
"Jenna?" she asked again.
Is that my name now? Jenna? Jon thought.
"Uh ... yeah. I'm up ... Mom," he (or rather she) said, feeling weird hearing her new female voice.
"You better get going. Considering how long you normally take to get ready for school, you don't have much time," her mom said through the door, before walking away and down the stairs.
Jenna held up the stone and looked at it, wondering what must have gone wrong with her wish. As far as she could see, it was no different than it was when she showed it to Karyn the previous day. Karyn! It was obvious that reality had changed, given her short conversation with her mom. Were Karyn and her still friends?
She put down the stone and grabbed her smart-phone, groaning after seeing that it now had a really girly and pink casing. Calling Karyn, Jenna held her breath, wondering how her longtime friend would respond.
After the phone was answered, Jenna said "Karyn?"
"Oh, hey, babe," Karyn said over the phone. "I had a fun time last night. I can't wait to do it again."
What was she talking about?
"Uh ... yeah. Me too," Jenna said.
"Listen, babe. I gotta go. I'll see you at school. We can talk more about this then, okay? Love ya," she then ended the call.
Babe? Love ya? Maybe her wish did come true. But why did it turn Jon into Jenna? Was Karyn exclusively into girls before? Sure, she was definitely a tomboy, but Jon never got the idea that she was a lesbian.
Looking down at the stone, she wondered if maybe she should try using it again.
