Jon fled from the school, moving as fast as he could, which wasn't very fast at all-Sarah had made him short and chubby before, but now he was really overweight for his height. His big belly, short legs, and soft muscles only let him run a few feet before he got tired out and had to walk. He trudged home, unable to keep from crying. He probably lost his one chance to put things right.
He finally got home-his mom was still at work. He'd tell her later that he felt sick at school and had to rush home. It wasn't a lie-he did feel sick to his stomach.
Looking at himself in the mirror in his room, Jon jiggled his newly expanded belly-he'd had a spare tire before, but now it looked like an inner tube around his waist. Disgusted, he threw himself on his bed. Maybe it was all a bad dream...magic stones, wishes, people's bodies changing...why couldn't it be a dream. But Jon knew it wasn't a nightmare...for him and Ehtel it was real.
Maybe it wasn't so bad. He missed his old body, and he knew he was going to get picked on for the rest of high school...but at least Sarah hadn't done much more to him than make him a little shorter and fatter than he had been. And Ethel-the new Karyn-she liked herself now-she wasn't upset about being a huge, sweaty girl anymore...Ethel...just the thought of her against him made Jon feel a little better, even though he know that was only because Sarah had wished it. But maybe it was okay if he liked how she looked and smelled now-he had wanted to be more than friends even when she was that skinny little Karyn, but...NO! What Sarah had done was wrong. People can't just be changed against their will! And he had to get the stone away from her-even if he couldn't figure out a way to reverse her wishes, he couldn't let her hold on to power like that.
But how? Ethel wouldn't help him-especially now that she enjoyed being Ethel. Vera and Susan were too scared. But wait-what about Wendy, the first girl other than Ethel that Sarah had used the stone on to get rid of? Sarah had turned Wendy-a straight A student, cheerleader, and candidate for prom queen into a drop-out working as a cleaning lady. Wendy might help him-and she was smarter than Sarah, just about as mean-she had a reputation as a real bitch when she got mad-and must have hated Sarah as much as he did. And Sarah wouldn't be expecting anything from her. If he could only convince her.
John looked up her number. Just as he was about to dial, the phone ran. Picking up, the voice on the other end was...
