Since we had the letter of introduction signed by Sir Killroy's father, the duke, we could go visit them for a small audience. It was the best that a very small family from the frontier like them could expect. Hopefully, this would go well. It was all up to Lord Swiftheart and his wife. Everyone else was way too lowly for the audience. There was nothing that I could do to further prepare them then giving them the chance. "I pray for your success. You and your council have no doubt prepared you with everything a lord like you needs to convince him." Fabien and Anthony nodded their heads and also gave their father encouragements. He smiled at them. "Don't worry. You two have made me proud on this journey. It's time for your father shows you what a man of the Swiftheart house can do." He then went off with his wife. We were left with the other knights and Evan. I looked at him as he was cleaning. I said "I wonder what will become of Evan after this. He is the servant of the house, but I doubt it is wise to leave a child his age as the only steward if we were to leave the city." I said to Fabien. Evan stopped.

He looked at us. "What will happen to me!? Are you not going to take me with you, sirs?" he asked us. There was a very nervous look on his face. Fabien just scowled at me. Anthony chose that moment to come over. "What's going on?" he asked. Fabien pointed at me. "Our knave of a companion asked what we will do with Evan in the situation where we need to leave the city." Anthony looked at me and frowned. "That's a very nasty thing to do to a child." he scolded. I just nodded and hung my head. I must have spoken out of turn. Fabien probably was not thinking about Evan too much. "It was an intrusive thought. I said it without thinking." I then turned to Evan. "I am sorry." I apologized. He just wrung his hands together. "What will happen to me?" he asked again. Anthony's brow furrowed. "What are you talking about, boy? Don't let a fools chatter bother you. We hired you. You still need to come with us to fulfill your role as a servant to the Swiftheart family." Fabien looked at him surprise. I guess that he really was going to leave Evan high and dry. Anthony was a feisty, but a good young man.

Evan's eyes sparkled and said "Of course, young master! I'll go with you!" He then got right back to cleaning. I smiled at Anthony. "Aww. That was incredibly sweet of you to say, Sir Anthony." I said. He rolled his eyes. "I know you are a man of sentiments and words, but as a noble we do keep them in high regard. We owe him the roof over our heads. If all he needs is a place to serve, we can provide that." Fabien just huffed and crossed his arms. "I sure hope so." he said. That was all that he said on the matter though. He obviously was not going to make his own brother into a liar here. That was probably why he was so upset with me. It made them come down firm on a course of action. One that they had to stick to. We were waiting for our lord to come home with news of their audience. It took the whole day. That could either a good thing or a very bad thing. When they came home, they looked tired. We all made ourselves very busy trying to make sure that they were able to relax now that they were back. When it was time for supper, it was also time to hear from them. We all wanted to hear.
