Lunch consisted of drinks and sandwiches served on the patio by Robert. There were plenty of extra ones, even though Mollie wolfed down several more than Laura and Lucy, who topped out the rest of the group. The sandwiches ranged from vegetables and cheese, meat...it was a light yet filling lunch for everyone.
Karyn quickly ate one and then ran and jumped in the pool and began kicking around. It wasn't a very deep pool, and she was able to swim around happily in it. "I'll go keep an eye on the kid," Mollie offered after scarfing down a few more sandwiches.
"Thank you," Jon said. Biff looked disappointed. Mollie would rather play with Karyn than hang out with him. Jon turned to him. "She seems very nice. Why haven't I met her before?"
"Because you've never visited here before?" Biff said. But Jon was right...Mollie was sweet...and sexy. Just...why couldn't he have her all to himself...without all these interruptions?
"I suppose," Jon said. "Maybe next time, you'll come to visit us."
"What would there be to do....I mean...like...do you even have a pool?" Biff asked.
Sarah raised a brow. "Don't be rude, Biff...I'm sure it would be lovely," she said. She turned to Lucy. "Jon just invited us to visit their house in the future."
"That is a great idea." Lucy looked at Laura. "I feel like we lost too many years of friendship on whatever this whole disagreement was about," she said.
Laura and Lucy went to change into their swimming trunks, while Sarah and Jon talked and watched Karyn in the pool, playing water catch with Mollie. Biff eventually joined them, and even participated in a game with them, almost looking like he was having fun despite his attitude.
Robert covered the remaining sandwiches in case anyone wanted them, and took the empty plates and glasses back into the kitchen to clean them. As he worked, he hummed to himself. When the doorbell rang, he paused, wondering who it was, and went to see.
