Devils of all shapes and sizes came through both sides of the portal as we waited. They were in a big city. The plane of Hell was infinitely expansive and each level was just as infinite as the last. It came to pass that a squad of bone devils were approaching the portal from the valley on our side of the river bank. They saw us and looked at us. We looked great. All of us were strong too. The leader smirked and said "You there, incubi." We turned to them and looked. All of the greater devils and lower were pretty nasty looking. "We are going to go on a big campaign against the filthy and chaotic demons of the Abyss. Service us before we go." the leader said. I said "I am so sorry sir. We have been waiting for our comrades who are coming down the river." He glared at me as he walked over. I just looked at him as he approached. He slapped me in the face with so much force that I fell to the ground. "Filthy slut! Who do you think you are to refuse us service, lowly whores!? We'll teach you to say no to us!" he screamed at me. All the rest of them then went hostile to me. My squad leapt to my defense.
Bearded devils serve archdevils as shock troops, fighting shoulder-to-shoulder and reveling in the full glory of battle. I had to check what these guys were in the in-game encyclopedia. Pretty cool. They respond with violence to any slight, real or imagined, gorging themselves on violence as their infernal saw-toothed glaives carve a path through their foes. A bearded devil is humanoid in form, with pointed ears, scaly skin, a long tail, and claws that clearly show its fiendish nature. These devils take their names from the snakelike growths that adorn their chins, which they use to lash and poison enemies, weakening them with their virulent venom. Devils personify tyranny, with a totalitarian society dedicated to the domination of mortal life. The shadow of the Nine Hells of Baator extends far across the multiverse, and Asmodeus, the dark lord of Nessus, strives to subjugate the cosmos to satisfy his thirst for power. To do so, he must continually expand infernal armies, sending servants to the mortal realm to corrupt souls from which new devils spawn. Devils live to conquer, enslave, and oppress.
They take perverse delight in exercising authority over the weak, and any creature that defies the authority of a devil faces swift and cruel punishment. Every interaction is an opportunity for a devil to display its power, and all devils have a keen understanding of how to use and abuse their power. Devils understand the failings that plague intelligent mortals, and they use knowledge to lead mortals into temptation and darkness, turning creatures into slaves of their corruption. Devils on the Material Plane use their influence to manipulate humanoid rulers, whispering evil thoughts, fomenting paranoia, and eventually driving them to tyrannical actions. Therefore it was no real surprise that they would attack me not not complying with their "request". They were going to try to put me in my place for refusing to fuck them. These fuckers could certainly try. My squad was missing 2 members, but it still would not be easy to take us out. All of them wielded glaives. If the target is a creature other than an undead or a construct, it must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution check or lose 5 HP every 10 seconds.
It was due to the infernal wound that refused to close on our bodies. Each time the devil hits the wounded target with this attack, the damage dealt by the infernal wound increases by 5. Any creature can take an action to stanch the wound with a successful DC 12 Medicine check. The wound would also close if the target received magical healing. We were still in battle and none of us had a decent Medicine skill level. We on the other hand all had magic on our side. Other than that, we had some sharp claws in they got in too close to us. It was a very tough battle. I was blasting them all with cantrips and spells that I knew would cause lots of damage. The others did the same. We ended up killing them and leveling up some more. It was really close. The wizard class did not really have much in the way of healing magic. That was bullshit in my opinion. We really were in danger of just bleeding out to death. I looked at the bodies to see if they had something. They had 3 healing potions each on them. We survived by drinking them. It was a really close call for us. We almost died. We laid low after.
