I decided I would be this chick's knight in shining armor, taking advantage of her ignorance to have some fun. I wished myself up a new muscular form strong enough to fight off the Barghest. It was still essentially mine, just as if I had pumped weights for a while. Next I created a suit of strong leather armor to protect me from its teeth and claws, along with a short iron sword.

The trick was to wait long enough for the girl to realize she was in danger, so I could appear heroic, yet not long enough for the dog to do any real harm. I wished up a handheld GPS receiver to keep track of both Danielle and the dog using chips implanted in their skin that neither would notice. I had the stone become the center of a choker-style necklace to keep my hands free, yet keep in contact with it. I further wished that only I could remove it, just in case this girl got any ideas.

I made myself a nice warm cloak, a sack filled with food, and a water canteen. Thinking she could be a vegetarian, I included some fresh fruit as well as fried chicken for me at least. Glancing at the GPS receiver, I concluded that the dog was close enough to worry and wished myself 300 feet behind her.

I blinked and found myself on a worn forest path, tall trees surrounding me. In the distance, I could hear the sound of a person walking along the path, and carefully crept forward. I could see the girl now, as sexy as in the image, if a bit dusty.

I looked at the receiver, found the dog coming dreadfully close, and shoved it behind a bush. I took a deep breath and then called out in my best hero voice, "Miss! You are in terrible danger! A monster approaches!"

Danielle turned around, startled, giving me a great view of her cleavage. "M-monster?" she stuttered, her voice irresistible. "Who-?"

A deep growl interrupted her, and I pulled my sword as a huge dog the size of a bear crawled out between the trees. "Get behind me," I hissed as I approached the dog. Oh, yikes, I thought as I realized just what I was up against. "I wish I will kill this thing and save the girl," I whispered, and then added, "I also wish I survive."

The dog actually seemed to laugh, and bared its teeth. I made a lunge for the creature, but it dodged and snapped at my neck. I dropped to the ground and struck at the beast's underbelly. It jerked away, but my sword struck, and dark blood spilled out of its breast.

The dog let out a literal howl of pain, and tried to retreat into the woods. However, I had already wished it dead, and found myself striking the dog's throat. Looking at me angrily, the dog slumped over dead.

"It's okay, miss," I said after I caught my breath. "It's dead." I removed the sword and wiped it on the grass.

She stared at the corpse, her eyes wide. "What is that?" she gasped.

"It's a Barghest," I said as if it was the simplest thing in the world. "Are you alright, miss?"

"Y-yeah," she said. "I'm, um, Danielle Goodman. And you?"

"Forgive me, Miss Danielle," I said, keeping up the act. "I am Jon, Keeper of the Stone."

"I-it's just Danielle," she said, confusion evident. "Most people call me Dani, anyway."

"Well, then, Dani," I said, "You look as though you are in need of a companion who could keep you safe from harm. Please, accompany to my cabin. I would be happy to assist." While I hadn't yet wished up any cabin, it would be easy to do so at any time.

"Oh," Dani paused, considering. "Thank you, Jon. That would be great."
