That announcement put everyone on edge. I looked at Sir Killroy. "The airway is clear. You'll need to swap out the straw from time to time. Mucus and blood and other secretions might flow from the wound and block it. Other than that, you need to stay by her side and hope we were not too late in giving her aid." I told him. The king and the royal family had already vacated the hall. Sir Killroy's father, the duke of a duchy pretty far from here, said "It is clear that things are tough for you. I have a residence in the city. You may both stay there in the meantime." I said "If she is moved while unconscious, the men that do need to be very careful. For an obvious reason. I don't have anything to keep the straw in place." Sir Killroy and his friends placed her in a chair and carried her that way. That way he could monitor his mother. Bishop White was gesturing angrily towards Humphrey and Henry. I pressed my finger over the hole of the straw on my end. He looked deathly scared. "Don't worry Your Grace. I didn't cut your vocal cords. You need to use your chest. Force air through your mouth to talk."

I modeled using my diaphragm. After a few tries he got it. His voice was super raspy and hoarse. "Thank you. You saved... my life." he said. I made sure to tell him about how to care for the new stoma. "This hole goes directly yo your lungs. Nothing other than your straw goes in there. Ever!" I said. He nodded his head. "No swimming. No bathing in a tub up to the neck. Hopefully it heals up on its own after your throat stops swelling. If not, you will have to get a surgeon to close it." He looked shocked. The bishop did not like the sound of it. "What!?" he wheezed. "It is technically a wound. It should heal. If not, a surgeon is going to have to go in and sew you wind pipe shut. I can't do it because I am not a surgeon. Then they can sew up the skin of your throat to close it too." I explained. He did not look pleased. He decided it would be better to go this his father's house to rest. It could also be safer than being alone. Humphrey and Henry were going to go with them. Anthony and Fabien approached me soon after. "I did not know that you were so skilled." Anthony said. I said "I will pray they both live."

Because most of the guests had left, I was able to take home a lot of leftovers. Evan and Fabien's attendant knights were happy to eat such a good meal. We told them what happened after they were done. I told them that I was going to stay low for a week or 2. "I clearly got in the way of someone's plot. That will put a target on me for a while. It's better if I'm not seen on the streets for a bit." I said. They all agreed that it would be for the best. They wrote another letter to their father. It would take a month to reach him. A response would be another month away. Petras and Jeran were told what happened as well. I would be at home. Everyone else were doing their jobs. It was nice to take a good break. A week later, I was paid a visit. It was Bishop White. At first I thought that it was Gerald. It was one of his triplets. His name was Marion. It was obvious thinking on it. His lack of a stoma should have gave it away. I was thanked for saving Gerald's life. I was also given a small chest of gold coins. I took it and asked if the swelling went down. With his father's money they were able to get medicine.
