Mayor Edmund Richards had been on his way home from city hall, when he needed to stop to fill his Jaguar with gas. Edmund was a popular young, at least for a politician, mayor who had high approval with the city of Lakeview.

Rachel Madison-Kingsley teetered back on her heels from the man who'd bumped into her at the gas pump. She took a moment to make sure her outfit hadn't been smudged. She didn't want someone to snap a photograph of her looking anything less than her best, after all. She was wearing a rose colored double breasted blazer, a pristine white knee length pencil skirt, a dark navy pussy-bow silk blouse and 3 inch shiny white heels. She shook her long, perfectly coifed hair and gave the scruffy looking drifter who was grabbing his gas cap a practiced smile as he muttered his apologies. She flashed her perfect, camera-ready pearly whites and returned to pumping gas into her black Jaguar.

Rachel was now the mayor of the town she'd once run away from in the old reality, living in a lovely old restored ranch house in the nice part of town and beloved by her electorate. There were even whispers of her getting the nod to run for the House in two years. Gone was her rebellious, sometimes surly personality, replaced with an easy charisma and a great deal of care now put into her image. The new Rachel would never be caught dead leaving the house in a ratty old band t-shirt like the fellow at the next pump over.

Her body hadn't changed as drastically as Juniper's, or even than Linda's, but there were a few differences. Her longer, obviously cared for hair was the most obvious, but in general she was just a bit better looking on the whole while Edmund had undergone the reverse. Her hair a bit glossier, her teeth a bit straighter, her skin a bit more blemish free, everything necessary to make her sufficiently photogenic enough for her new role. The effect appeared more drastic though, due to her far nicer outfit, and the addition of meticulously applied makeup, which the old Rachel had never bothered with.

Edmund had become 'Eddie' Richards and now had Rachel's old career, or lack of one. Since she'd been wearing a less gendered outfit, he now had on the same thing, just in his own size and with combat boots instead of flats. In the new reality he was passing through town on his way to a photography job down the coast, since unlike Rachel, he didn't have extended family in town to be visiting.

There was a quirk of Jon's wish for role reversals that ensured the family would still be family to each other after the reversals, rather than take on the relations of whoever they had changed with. However this didn't extend to other non-familial relationships. For instance, as part of changing their professions, Linda and Susan had exchanged coworkers and associated friendships. The rule, as with the rest of the exchange, was to change only as much as was necessary to allow them to fulfill their new role. In light of that, relationships didn't change more than they had to; Juniper now had friends on the swim team, but hadn't lost her friendship with Karyn for instance.

In Rachel's case, the roles exchanged centered on their professions, with her becoming the mayor. This obviously meant she was now the one who knew the mayoral staff, the lobbyists, city councilors and so on. In turn, Eddie now knew the magazine editors who occasionally threw him photography work and people he'd met in his travels. However, there was another major relationship that had altered. See, the secret to Edmund's political success had been his wife Gwendolyn Kingsley-Richards, who was both his closest confidant and a major contributor to his electoral appeal. It was also the case that his beautiful wife's family money had provided the initial seed money for his first campaign, making her essential to his mayoral role.

So it was that, in addition to suddenly being not merely a resident of Lakeview again, but its mayor, Rachel was also now the one happily married to Gwen, now Gwendolyn Madison-Kingsley. There was a shiny ring on her finger and she was now on her way to pick up Gwen from her work, before the couple went over to her model sister, Linda's for dinner. She turned the key and the powerful car thrummed to life, before she peeled out of the gas station parking lot, excited to spend a pleasant evening with her family, blissfully unaware of a past reality in which she'd been dreading the visit.
