Unknown to John at the time, the Glitch would still carry over the same effect, in theory as the original Selfie App. However it would work differently now, John's mind would still acquire an entire mindset downloaded into his head, personality, identity and all but it wouldn't be an exact copy of the targets, this instance being Kathy's. Atleast not at first.
Rather, it would only download a single aspect into John's head, and from this point on that aspect would propagate and install itself into John's brain, like a virus. All his other memories, thoughts and perspectives would be warped and changed by this aspect, better fitting it. He'd become slightly like a copy of Kathy, but more like an offshoot really. More focused on a single trait than a perfect balanced copy. For example, if the Aspect copied onto him was "Fashion", his mind would in a sense become the very personification of Kathy's Fashion sense over time. The same with anything else, be it her intelligence, childhood, literacy, friendship, secrets, views on politics and law, appetite, ect.
He could only stare at the screen of the phone in awe as he read what it was set to.
