No one would ever suspect the app's hidden effect, which was a brain scan and copy function. Every time someone used the app to take a picture of someone, the brain of the person being photographed would be instantaneously scanned and all the information within it (memories, knowledge, experiences, personality traits, etc.) would be copied, then transferred to John's own computer via the internet. With this device, John could literally gain all the knowledge of the world, if everyone in the world had this app. But getting a copy of the people's minds was just the beginning. With a couple more devices (he was still in the process of creating), he could take those mind copies and use them, in different ways. Like, for example, downloading all or parts of the copied minds into other people ... or himself. He could become the smartest man in the world.
But first thing's first. Who to test it on? He wouldn't mind (ha, get it?) getting his hands on the knowledge acquired by his chief competitors, for one. But maybe he should try it out on someone less connected to himself first. He didn't want to raise any eyebrows if his experiment didn't go the way he wanted.
