The next morning ...

Cassandra dropped her black leather pull-string bag in the back room of the Starbucks and groaned. It was yet another day of working at this shit awful place, dealing with people she wouldn't normally give a fuck for. She needed a change. But she could never even imagine what kind of change was in store for her.

She turned and was confronted by something. It was a floating ball. How the hell was it doing that? "What the fu ..." She never got to finish her sentence. The bright light nearly blinded her, causing her to lose her train of thought. And when it was gone, the ball was no longer there and she was different. She was no longer angry. It was weird, but she actually felt happy. She loved working at this place. She was a real people person, ya know? She shook her head. What was wrong with her? She wasn't like this. Was she? She looked at her reflection in a nearby mirror and saw that her mind wasn't the only thing that had changed. Her entire look at been altered too. Now she looked like some kind of preppy chick! No longer gothic in the slightest. How was this possible? The thing was, though, she wasn't mad. Confused, yes. But not angry about it at all. It was weird, but she preferred being preppy to being a Goth. In fact, the thought of being gothic kind of freaked her out. She knew she used to be that way, just moments earlier, but she preferred to be more girly, more preppy, more bubbly. It was alien to her, but at the same time, so ... familiar? Like she had been this way all along? If that made any sense.

"Cassie? You okay?" another of the coffee shop's employees asked, walking into the back room. It was Tiffany. She always annoyed Cassandra. No, wait. Wasn't Tiffany her best friend? Wait, did Tiff just call her Cassie? Wait a moment, why was that weird? Everyone called her that. It was a lot cuter than Cassandra. She smiled suddenly.

"Yeah, Tiff. I'm okay," Cassie replied. She still remembered her old life, but it felt more like a dream to her. This was her life. She was a popular outgoing preppy girl, not some weird creepy Goth girl. She headed out to the counter and that's when she spotted John waiting in line. She didn't know why, but she suddenly really liked him. He was kind of weird, but she liked guys like that. Right?
