Roger Madison had just settled in on the couch with a beer to watch the game. Linda was helping Mikey with his homework, and the other kids were out. Finally he had a quiet moment for some man time. Life was good.
Suddenly, there was a fairly frantic knock on the door. Luckily, the game was in a time-out so Roger got up to answer, keeping his beer in hand. It was his new neighbor at the door. It was the little girl from next door. "Hello, Stacy," he said, in a friendly manner. "What can I do for you?"
"Do you want to play house?" The girl asked him, with seeming innocence.
Roger was a bit puzzled, but realized the girl was probably lonely, having just moved into a new neighborhood. He didn't want to hurt her feelings though. "Well, I was just about to watch a football game...if your parents don't mind, you could watch with me." He didn't think she would want that, but at least he was letting her down easy.
"I don't like football," she said.
"Well, Mrs. Madison and my son Mikey are in the dining room. Maybe my wife will know someone closer to your own age you can play with."
"Maybe you'll want to play with me later," Stacy said, heading toward the dining room.
Roger unpaused his DVR. He didn't want to miss a minute of the action on Iron Chef.
