...to not directly wish for magic knowledge and power. Just suddenly knowing magic out of the blue would not be as interesting as actually learning it, at least in his opinion. So he decided to wish for a teacher that would actually teach him magic ways.
That thought brought him to a problem, though - wishing stone was obviously a really powerful magical artefact. It was extremely likely that whatever magic user he would meet, he or she would somehow figure out that Jon had wishing stone. As such Jon needed to figure out how to protect stone itself and make sure that the knowledge that he possessed it would not spread out. First was more easy to do in his opinion so Jon decided to start there. He gently squeezed wishing stone in his hand and made a wish "I wish to have control of completely secure small pocket dimension that only I could access and I would be able to transfer things into and from it with a simple thought." The wishing stone glowed briefly, granting him his wish. Jon decided to test out his new ability and took out his smartphone. With a simple thought the phone disappeared from his hand and reappeared second later. Jon tested ability a few more times, finally being satisfied. Next he thought about how to secure knowledge that he had wishing stone.
The current problem was that Karyn already knew about it and while he trusted her, who knows what mages were capable of? Maybe they could simply read her mind or force her to tell truth with some sort of spell. Same could happen to him too. Jon thought for a while on how to make this knowledge more secure but could not come up with any ideas. In the end he just decided that in his new pocket dimension stone would be secure and he should just make sure that no-one could force him to give up stone or use it against his will. "I wish that no-one would be able to force me to hand over wishing stone by any means, or make me do wishes against my own will." Jon simply wished and sighed in relief then stone glowed. Feeling that he covered all his bases for now, Jon started to think on how exactly learn magic.
While idea of a magic school honestly sounded awesome to him, he was reluctant to give up his current life to study in some other place. Honestly he thought that studying under a personal teacher would be much more awesome. As such he felt that leaving wish pretty vague and seeing how it goes would be most interesting option. Jon also felt he needed to be sure that he could actually learn magic too. He read a lot of books in where so called 'magical potential' was a thing. So giving himself a head start would not hurt. "I wish I would have a large potential to become great magic user." he wished, feeling a bit giddy with excitement about magic. Stone glowed briefly and Jon smirked to himself already imagining various spells he will be able to use in the future. Shaking his head a bit Jon then carefully thought about his last wish for a night. Coming up with wording he was happy with he made his wish.
"I wish that tomorrow I would meet a powerful magic user who would decide to take me in as apprentice and would teach me magic." the stone shined brightly and Jon closed his eyes for a moment, then opening them and smirking slightly. He honestly could barely wait for tomorrow, and feeling very excited he put the wishing stone into his new pocket dimension and went to sleep.
That night Jon dreamed about throwing fireballs and casting various other spells as he became the greatest magic user in the world.
