The rest of English class passed peacefully, although Brandi kept passing notes to Jonatha all the time, trying to find out more details about his date with Nicole. Eventually, though they had to stop because Mstr. Salem warned them again and threatened them with detention.
Therefore, Jonatha was quite relieved when the bell rang, so he gathered his books, picked up his purse and backpack, and made his way to his next class. It wasn’t that he didn’t like Brandi or Keitha, it was just the endless bombardment of questions that Brandi threw at him that exhausted him, especially since he didn’t know many of the details himself.
Jonatha slipped into social studies and sat down in between Jade and Buffie.
“Hey, Jonatha,” Jade said greeting him with a smile, then he noticed the look on Jonatha’s face. “What’s up?” He asked.
They had a bit of time before their teacher, Ms. Watford, arrived, so Jonatha filled them in.
“Ooh!” Buffie cooed. “Your first date. Nervous?”
Jonatha nodded. Buffie was about to say more but then the door opened and in stepped Ms. Watford. Buffie stopped in mid-sentence as he turned to stare at the incoming teacher. Jonatha heard Buffie sigh dreamily as he rested his head on his hands.
Jonatha looked around the classroom and noticed that every boy, except for him and Jade, was in the exact same pose. He turned to look at the teacher and gasped. He could see why every boy was staring.
According to this world’s standards, Ms. Watford was extremely handsome. She was very muscular; her light blue shirt seemed to bulge under the weight of her muscles. Her black hair was cut short and slicked back.
She coughed. “Um, good afternoon class. I’m sorry that I missed yesterday’s lesson... I wasn’t feeling too well," Ms Watford explained.
“Ooh,” One the boys, who Jonatha didn’t recognize, cooed. “I hope that you’re feeling better, Miss.” One of the few girls in the class groaned.
“Yes, I am. Thank you, Mstr. Hobbs.” Jonatha looked over and saw Hobbs, who he still didn’t recognize, giggling with his friends.
Ms. Watford started taking roll. As she did so, Jonatha started daydreaming again, absentmindedly drawing hearts on his notebook filled with his and Nicole’s initials..
Jonatha looked up when he heard his name called and responded. When he looked down, he realized what he had been doing and felt a bit embarrassed about it. However, the more he looked, the more Jonatha started to like it. He even started to write out his name while adding Nicole’s last name to his which reminded him of his upcoming date.
Earlier that morning, while he had been getting ready, Jonatha had looked over some of the new clothes in his wardrobe. Thinking back now, he realized that he didn’t have anything that he wanted to wear on Friday. Making sure that Ms. Watford wasn’t looking—she was too busy giving all of her attention to the ditzy boys in the corner—Jonatha nudged Buffie.
“I need a new outfit for Friday,” he whispered.
