Because when the game was over, not only did Jenny hug him, but she took the stone. He was so surprised at the action that he didn't grasp it tightly enough until it was too late.
"Umm... Jenny, can I have that back?" he asked. This could be a complete disaster.
"Is that supposed to be the wishing stone?" she asked. "I didn't believe Karyn. There's no such thing as a wishing stone... I bet you two are trying to play a trick on me. You were going to tell me this is a wishing stone."
"It's a wishing stone," said Karyn. She didn't seem to think Gary would even mind it being said. "And you'd better give it back to me or Gary, because it can be dangerous. Very, very, dangerous."
"That's right," said Gary. "So please give me the stone."
"I'll prove it to you!" exclaimed Jenny. She giggled and said "I wish the moon was made of green cheese." Then she glanced up at the moon. It wasn't green, and while its surface was somewhat reminiscent of cheese as always, nobody would mistake it for an actual dairy product. "Look up there! See? Nothing."
"The stone has a range," said Karyn. "It won't work on the moon."
"Oh, now you're just making that up," said Jenny. "I'll wish for something closer, that'll show you. I wish that me and Gary...."
