Gary poked his finger at the stone and said "I wish me and Karyn would become partners."
Karyn's expression of anger changed to anticipation. "Gary, come on. Get it and let's go."
He smiled. It was much easier to do this if Karyn was on his side. "I can't reach it. Maybe you could?"
She got down on the floor and reached under to get it. After a few seconds, she pulled it out. "Here you go, Gary." She gave it to him and he held it in his hand, tightly. He wasn't ever going to lose it again.
"Now, come on. Let's get out of here, before they come back," Karyn whined.
"Okay, okay." They left the house and went to Gary's car.
Karyn was about to get in, when Gary stopped her. "What are you doing?"
"I'm getting in."
Gary walked to the other side of the car. "What do you mean? You're not coming with me. My wife would wonder what's up. I mean, you're Jenny's friend and all."
Karyn wasn't sure what Jenny had to do with it. She held hands with Gary, unknowingly touching the stone, and said "Sometimes I wish your wife would just accept that fact that I'm with you."
"With me? What do you mean?"
Gary's cell phone rang. It was his wife. "Uh, hello?"
On the phone, his wife said "Gary, could you at least come to part of the game. Beverly really wanted you to be here."
"Well," he looked down the stone in his hand, mission complete. "I guess I could."
"Good. If you want to bring your mistress along too, that will be fine."
"What? What mistress?"
"Well, Karyn, of course." And she hung up.
He looked at Karyn, who was looking at him with love in her eyes.
What did I wish for?
