Jon pushed the repulsors in his shoes to the limit, trying to fly as fast as possible. He squinted against the wind, and felt his skirt flapping like a flag in a stiff wind. But within a few moments, it seemed he had stopped accelerating.
"What's going on?" he shouted against the wind of his flight. "Why aren't I going any faster?"
"This is Dr. Takeda. I'm here with Dr. Bradford in the science lab. Those little repulsors in your shoes were mainly meant for practice -- they aren't powerful enough to speed you up any faster. And if you keep trying to force them like this, they'll burn out!"
"Well, what am I supposed to do? The plane will crash if I don't get there in time!"
"Try flying upwards, then increasing your inertia. It should set you on a parabolic trajectory, and if you get the angle and the timing right, you can intercept the plane."
"Okay, just tell me when to go."
"Ready.... now!"
With that Jon flew up, putting as much power as he could muster into his flight. Then he maximized his inertia and cut the thrusters. It was a strange feeling to be soaring up and over the landscape, and as soon as he increased his inertia the blasting wind started to feel more like a light breeze.
Jon looked around, trying to find the plane. He squinted into the distance, and suddenly felt a sense of vertigo as his vision seemed to zoom towards a tiny speck in the air, which soon he could see was a large jetliner, trailing smoke from three engines!
"I see you've activated your enhanced vision! Good! And it looks like you timed it just about right. You should come down right behind the plane, and before it crashes. I just hope you can stop it in time!"
