"McLeaned?" Jon asked. "How can THAT trope apply to ME? I'm not a character in a TV show."
The trope described a situation where an actor leaves a TV show, and rather than have the character Put On A Bus (written out by having the character leave town or something or otherwise go their separate ways from the main cast and the show), they have the character killed off.
The trope was named for McLean Stevenson, and how his character Colonel Henry Blake was killed off when McLean Stevenson left M.A.S.H. Other examples include Valerie Harper from her own show Valerie (renamed the Hogan Family), Tasha Yar from Star Trek: The Next Generation when her actress complained they weren't doing much with her character, and Sgt. Mike Dodds from Law and Order: SVU when his actor wanted to return to stage performing.
"I guess this wish isn't going to work." Jon said. "I mean, there isn't an actor playing ME, right?"
"Right?" Jon started to get a little nervous. If he were a character in a television show, he would presumably know it. His life wasn't a TV show ... or was it?
