“So did you have any ideas?” Zoe looked at her former-brother’s former-friend with expectation once the door to her room was closed behind her.
“Yes!” Karyn exclaimed. “Okay, so first I was thinking that we want to take things slow, just in case something is worded wrong or misinterpreted or whatever. We’re not going to solve all of our problems, we’re just going to get us closer to how things should be, and then we can go on from there. Does that make sense?”
The two cheerleaders nodded.
“Okay, so then I was thinking,” Karyn continued, “what about the tree branch?”
“What tree branch?” Sarah asked. Zoe and Karyn gave a quick explanation of the branch that the original Jon had wished blue.
“So Zoe wished that she could make Jon understand what it was like to be the little sister,” Karyn explained, “but we can still specify how Jon comes to that understanding.”
A shiver of adrenaline coursed through Zoe’s chest. Progress. For the first time all week, it felt like they were going to make some progress. “What’s the wish?” Zoe asked.
“Well…”
