Karyn looked at Jon's eyes, trying to decide how to feel about this. First - it was a breach of privacy. She knew Jon for years and he always respected her privacy and she respected his. This was the first time that was ever broken... and it hurt a little. Secondly - she was planning to tell him soon. It wasn't as if she was hiding her preferences actively. Still, she would have preferred to have an opportunity to tell him herself... Then lastly comes the third point, which makes it easier to see the pains Jon himself suffered...
Jon had a crush on her.
Yes, Karyn knew that he liked her more than a friend. She was going to tell him about being lesbian this week, actually, so she could put the guy out of his misery... gently. Jon was a great friend and she wanted that it would remain so. Honestly, if he was a girl, she probably would have become his girlfriend a while ago. He had similar interests, he liked her for her character, he was funny, attentive, smart... if only he was born as a girl Karyn would certainly grab him. Sadly, that option was out of the window as miracles didn't happen, so at the end of spring break Karyn already had decided to come out with her secret and try to salvage their friendship...
Until another option was presented by innocent-looking reddish-hued magic stone.
Magic. Who could have thought, right? If Karyn didn't see stone's effects and actually experienced them herself, she wouldn't have believed it. But she saw. She experienced. And she realized that this stone was a way to attain a perfect girlfriend... by turning Jon into girl. Of course, she wouldn't be cruel and just grab the stone and wish for it. Karyn had to approach it subtly. Or try to. She didn't really know how to approach the subject. But she will, once they reach Jon's home.
That is why deciding to not be angry with Jon was quite easy for her.
Jon looked at Karyn with a bit of worry, as she didn't talk for some time now, seemingly deciding his judgement. Finally it seemed that she decided his fate as she looked at his eyes "It is okay. I forgive you. I was going to tell you this week anyways. Just promise that you won't do it again." "I promise. I shouldn't have done it, it is just..." Karyn stopped him there "I understand. Let's talk about this in your house. We aren't that far." she said and Jon nodded his head, walking together again.
The rest of the walk was silent. Seemed that Ember decided to keep quiet and not butt into things and for that he was thankful. It could have been easy to blame whole thing on her, but he knew better. She offered him an out and he was the one who didn't take it. Her arguments were valid and he was so curious at the time... Well, everything went as best as it could, he supposed, so all was good in the world.
They arrived at his house and Jon took his keys, unlocking the door and inviting Karyn in. No-one else was at home yet as his parents were at work, Zoe won't come back from school for another hour and Jacob had some sports club activities in his school today. So for an hour they would be undisturbed. The two friends walked into Jon's room, dropping their bags on the floor and sitting down on the bed. Next minute was spend in awkward silence.
"I want to..." "I want to..." they both started talking at same time and laughed a bit. They both smiled and Jon decided to go first.
"I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings with my snooping, Karyn, but for a long time now I had... a crush on you." he admitted "You are funny, great to talk with and hang out, you are smart, beautiful and just absolutely amazing. You are my best friend and I like you not just because of that, but because you are a great person. When I found out that you are... a lesbian, it was as if my hopes to have an amazing girlfriend were crushed... until I remembered the stone." he smiles "I would never change you against your will, but... I really, really like you, Karyn... and if you are willing to give this a try... I am willing to change for you..." he said his piece, waiting for Karyn's reaction.
Karyn paid close attention to what Jon was saying, absorbing every word. Part of her couldn't believe that he was actually suggesting this. "He really is a good person..." she thought to herself, rewarding Jon with a smile "I don't even know what to say... You really are amazing, Jon. You are the best friend a girl could wish for. You are funny, attentive and smart and... you are such a good person. I was going to say that if you were girl, I would never let you go... and if you are willing... if you are truly willing, I will give this a chance. I would love to be your girlfriend, Jon Madison." she said with a smile and gave him a warm hug.
They held the hug for a few moments longer than needed and then Jon released it, going under his bed and retrieving the jewelry box, opening it and retrieving the stone. He held it tightly in his hand, smiling at Karyn. "Guess this is it. Hope you won't miss my handsome face too much?" Karyn smiled in good humor "I will live. I will get a gorgeous girlfriend out of it. And so will you. Besides, being girl isn't that bad. You will love it, I promise." Jon chuckled "Well, if you say so. Here it goes..."
