"What the FUCK!" Screamed Karyn as Emily drove off in Jon's car. She couldn't believe it. What was Emily doing? How could she just leave her like this. She was only supposed to hit on Jon a little and make him feel awkward, not go from 0 to 60 in 2 seconds flat.
"What the fuck," she said again. Tears began to well up in her eyes. Emily knew she liked Jon. "What the fuck" she said quietly. "How could she do this to me?" She looked down at the keys in her hand. She didn't even remember Emily handing them to her. Had she known she was going to leave with Jon?
"I should just leave her car here" she mumbled to herself, but instantly thought better of it. She couldn't do that. "or maybe in a ditch somewhere". Instead, she got in the car and drove a couple blocks to The Pan Cafe, the local sandwich and coffee place they all liked to hang out at. All the baristas knew their names and they even had a regular booth they always sat at.
Karyn ordered something extra sweet that was probably not good for her and sat at her usual spot, crying silently.
She was halfway through her second drink when the door opened and Matt and Will sat down in front of her.
"There you are" Said Will. "We've been looking all over for you"
Karyn gave him a look like he was an idiot, and muttered "Where else would I be? What took you so long?"
Will and Matt looked at each other nervously, "Well uh..." Will began "to be honest, we kinda wanted to give you a chance to cool off a bit"
Matt snorted "More like you wanted to do donuts in your new-" Will jabbed him in his stomach.
Karyn glared at them and sighed, "Whatever..."
The three sat in awkward silence of a few moments before Matt spoke up, "So what the hell happened back there? Why'd you slap Jon and leave in a huff like that?"
Karyn rolled her eyes, "Why do you think?"
"Well, I mean, yea. He's a pig or whatever you said, I get that," continued Matt, "What guy isn't one every once in a while. But I mean, come on, aren't you dating that guy you were with?"
Karyn was surprised, "What guy? I'm not seeing anyone"
"That older guy. You were just with him. We just assumed you two were dating. You came with him, he made that wish, made Jon into a babe,"
"And me a stud," reminded Will, as he patted his abs.
"And Will a stud" agreed Matt, "Then you slapped Jon and left with him. In fact..." Matt looked around, "I kind of expected to see him here with you. Isn't that his car out front?"
Karyn's mouth was hanging open, "You mean Emily?"
"Emily?" Will said looking from Matt to Karyn, "No, I thought he said his name was Elliot. Who's Emily?"
"Yea, Har Har. Very funny" said Karyn "I'm really not in the fucking mood right now"
Will and Matt shared another concerned look. "No, seriously" said Will "We don't know any Emily"
"Emily? You know, Emily? How could you not know her?! We've been best friends for years. We share half our classes with her! We all go camping together every year. Matt, she's been helping you in Math, for god-knows how long. Oh for godsake Will, you just took her to Homecoming this year. I taught her how to swim. And... and... she's off fucking Jon as we speak!" Tears and snot poured down Karyn's face.
Matt and Will shared another look that seemed to say What are we supposed to do now?
Matt awkwardly got up, mumbling something about napkins. Will slid to the other side of the booth and wrapped his arm around her. Karyn leaned into him, as he softly said "there there"
