“I need to go find Athena,” the younger Gibson cried as she shot out of Sarah’s car like a rocket.
Athena. Zoe had had a dream about Athena. Or no, not Athena. The idea was just out of reach.
“I think I need to go with her,” Zoe said as she exited the car, herself. They were the first words Zoe had spoken since entering the car. Sarah and Dawn had been carrying the conversation.
But with Dawn out of earshot, Sarah could focus her attention on Zoe. “Hey, are you alright?”
“No,” Zoe answered without looking in her friend’s direction. “But I don’t think that can be helped right now.”
“Are you mad at me?”
“Not really. I just don’t know what to do. I need to figure out what to do.”
“So you’ll still sit next to me in Biology like usual?”
Zoe turned her head at that. Biology was for seniors. She’d been taking Earth-Space Science. This must be from one of the wishes. Or maybe from a few of them.
“Yeah, I’ll see you in Bio,” Zoe put on a smile that she didn’t fully feel. “I just need to follow Jo-, I mean, I need to follow Dawn right now.”
Sarah bit her lower lip. “We’ll figure something out.”
Zoe sighed. “I know.”
Then Sarah went to meet with the other cheerleaders, and Zoe went in Dawn’s direction.
