Adam yelped her new girlish yelp and spun up and around, coming face to face with the Fairy Queen to end all Fairy Queens. Her dress was baby blue and fell all the way to the floor. Her crown at least three times as sparkly as Adam's own, and wings that shimmered like diamond glass. And her wand seemed to glow with sunlight.
"How do you do, young Adam?" She spoke slowly and moved her hands and wand gracefully, giving Adam a slight nod.
"I . . m fiiine?" Adam said, unsure what to say.
"Curtsy."
"What?"
The woman rolled her eyes and flicked her wand, and suddenly Adam found herself giving her a deep curtsy.
"I shall overlook some faux pas given your unique circumstances, but I expect at least decent etiquette from all my subjects."
"Look, but I'm not one of your subjects, you see. I'm human and got turned into a fairy by this weird magic thing. Please, can you make me normal?" Then Adam added, "Your Highness."
The woman grimaced. "I am the queen of all fairies, pixies, nixies, nymphs, sprites, squirrels and song birds of Sycamore Lane. You are by any decent definition, one of my subjects. As to your request, I see nothing abnormal about you. You seem a very normal fairy girl. Oh, which reminds me: you do not have wings because you have not yet earned them. It is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed by. I'm sure, given time and practice you can earn your wings within a few weeks."
"But I don't want to be a fairy!"
"That's not my concern. Now, as to your wings, if you truly want them, you should first figure a way out of this bowl. It is embarrassing that any fairy would get herself captured by a human. Get out of here, and you will take your first step on your way to getting your wings."
With that, the fairy glowed and was simply gone, leaving Adam bewildered and not a little annoyed. How could she get out of this?
