Adam didn't really want to go shopping. His little sister wanted to get something 'really' weird. A Disney costume of a fairy princess, in order to be used in some kind of play.

His mother insisted he go get it, and gave him the money. "Why are these things so expensive," he wondered to himself. It was a lot of money, and he wasn't even sure what costume she wanted. She was an extremely 'girly girl', in love with pink, though of course he did love his sister no matter what. Still he hoped the little five year old would grow up, and did worry by such an obsession. She tended to whine a lot too when she didn't get her way, and their parents treated her like a princess.

".. and I'm the errand boy," he groaned as he clutched the money. It was more then he ever got doing odd jobs for a week. All for just a silly (though officially licensed) costume?

He went into the Disney store and breathed in the atmosphere of the delightful store. It was... an interesting experience. He had to admit, it was nice to see what was around and be reminded of old cartoon programs. Still, he couldn't find the things he particularly enjoyed when he was younger. There were an awful lot of fairy costumes too when he found them on the side in various shades, all colours of the rainbow. He felt a bit embarrassed to be browsing them, but eventually found one that he felt might suit his little sister's taste.

It was pretty much at the extreme end of the 'girly girl' look. Glittery wings were on the back, with a bright pink skirt and top, It looked like it came with a flowery princess crown too made of plastic that almost looked like gold. A flower fairy perhaps? He picked it so as not to wrinkle it and took it to the counter.

"Can... I buy this please?"

The woman behind smiled. "Sure, that will be thirty dollars please."

It was hard to watch that kind of cash go, and in an instant... he had become the proud owner of a flower-fairy costume for his five year old sister.

He left the shop, holding it in the bag, and waited at the bus stop to get home. He felt a little anxious. Maybe it was just holding this bag with micky mouse on it that made him nervous, but there was something else.

People around the shopping center seemed to be acting odd. It was... subtle, but something just didn't seem right. Then he glanced at some kids that were pointing and laughing at him. He blinked at them wondering what it was, and scratched his head- only to feel the crown of the fairy costume sitting happily there.

"What the hell?!" Adam grabbed the plastic yellow crown looking at it. How in the world did that get out of the bag? He started to look inside the bag, but noted it was completely sealed. There was just... no way that crown could have got out of his bag, let alone on his head! Well... he tried not to think anything of it. Maybe someone played a weird joke on him.

Finally the bus was here, and he hoped onto it.

The young man arrived home to the face of his anxious mother.

"Adam? Is everything alright?" His mother asked as he entered the house.

"Yeah, I am... why?" he asked curious.

"Haven't you seen the news?" Her mother flipped a channel.

The newscaster looked quite shocked at what he was decribing. "We are getting reports that... some items in various shops be they games or those of a fantastical origin appear to be able to do things similar to what we can only describe as magic. the first item was found to be a toy alien weapon from a cereal box. While just a flashy toy that makes a noise, it turned into a 'real' version of that toy, though fortunately did not seem able to cause harm. This alien toy turned people invisible when they were shot at with it. The effects were short lived. As far as we can tell, the number of items are very low but are out there in the shops and can cause potential harm. Some people are scrambling to buy what they always wanted, while others are throwing away various keepsakes. We advise the public to report any unusual items to the police, and dispose of them if safe."

"Yikes," thought Adam. "That's really surreal mom, but I didn't buy any cereal. Just the fairy costume."

His mother bit her lip. "Maybe we best not give it, can you throw it away in the bin? We'll get another one for her, until we're sure this is all sorted out."

"It's thirty dollars mom!"

"I know, but I won't risk Alice when there's clearly something strange going on. Please toss it outside."

"...Fine."

Adam went back outside, and tossed the fairy costume in the bin. He shook his head at it. It was almost time for him to head to school anyway, with his morning assignment complete and.. in the dust bin.
