Jon had heard about Karyn's incident at lunch, although the story he heard was quite a bit different from Karyn's. Rumours were flying around the school, particularly about Karyn's sexuality and promiscuity. Sarah's social status was such that most of the other students took her at her word and repeated whatever she said; Karyn's small group of friends was no match for the power of Sarah McMillan's popularity, and most of them chose the path of self-preservation and threw their friend Karyn to the wolves.
The story now being told around the school included lurid details about Karyn sleeping with boys at several parties, most of which she hadn't even attended. Apparently she had flashed her boobs at school of her own free will, and several students were swearing that they saw implant scars. Jon hadn't been spared, and many students now believed that he was gay, and the term "fag-hag" was added to the list of insults being thrown at Karyn.
Jon wanted to use the stone to stop the rumours, but Karyn wouldn't let him. "It might be really hard to make that work, and we don't know how the stone might affect peoples' minds," she explained, "so I'd rather focus our wishes on the people who deserve them the most."
Jon felt nervous about this, mostly worrying that Biff was going to beat him up again the next day, but Karyn explained her plan.
She wanted to give Biff and Sarah each a taste of their own medicine. Karyn and Jon were not the first victims of their bullying, but Karyn thought that they might be the last if her plan worked. She wanted to give them each a week where they would experience what they had inflicted on others - a week of humiliation and embarrassment, where they wouldn't suffer permanent physical harm, but where they would be forced to realize what it felt like to be a victim.
Karyn picked up the stone, and carefully recited"
"I wish that, for each of the next seven days, that Jon and I will be able to pick someone who has been bullied or assaulted by Sarah or Biff. Sarah and Biff will be unable to say or do anything to harm that person for the entire day, but that person will have the ability to control their actions and transform their bodies for the entire day. That person will not be able to kill or permanently injure Sarah or Biff, and all changes will be undone at midnight each day, and that person will lose the power to affect them further. Everyone except Biff, Sarah, Jon and I will forget about all the unusual things that happened each day, although the person we have chosen will feel better."
"Think that will do?" Karyn asked. Jon felt a smile creeping across his face.
"I think so," he said, "but it will be interesting regardless."
