The moment Jon opened the door to his house, he smiled as he saw his mom, Linda, cheerfully preparing the dining room table for her first book club meeting. Jon walked upstairs to his room thinking that he could leave the rest to mom.
Jon noticed a peculiar sight before he entered his room, as he saw his Sister Zoe for the first time since her friends (well ex-friends) had become teachers. Zoe no longer had a goth appearance, as she seemed to feel comfortable wearing a pair of khaki pants and a grey tank top. She noticed Jon, but she did not say anything snarky like she would have before. Instead she walked inside her room and shut the door without a word.
"Huh. Well on the bright side at least she didn't insult me."
Ignoring the ramifications of his actions, Jon walked inside the room and placed the rock on the bed. Jon got out his phone and proceeded to text Karyn.
Roger McMillan was staring at his Sarah chatting with his sister Mary, who used to be his real mother. The two were chatting about the book club meeting, and how late Sarah would be staying over.
"Now Mary dear, remember to take care of your brother while I'm gone." Sarah said as she finished checking on her make-up.
"But Mom," Mary said in a familiar snobbish tone, "I told my friends that I-"
"No buts Mary. You're going to stay here tonight. If you need anything from me just let me know okay."
Sarah left the front door with her purse, as she proceeded to walk a few blocks to the Gibson residence. Mary in the meantime glared at Roger.
"This is so stupid. Why do I have to watch over you when you're in freaking high school?" Sarah said.
"Relax Mary," Roger said with a grin, "in a few minutes you won't have to worry about being my babysitter."
"What? Why?"
"Because by the time Mother reaches the Gibson residence, she'll realize that she forgot something important." Roger held up a Neil Gaiman book in his right hand and pointed it towards the door.
"Wait a minute, why did you take Mom's book."
Roger didn't answer Mary as his cell phone began to ring. Seeing the caller ID was from his mother, Roger smiled.
"A lesson teaching experience Mary, one that will make my enemy see the error of their ways for eternity.
After talking to his mother for a few minutes, Roger left the front door with his backpack on and walked to the Gibson residence.
