Once the flash died down, Jon was left holding the stone in his hand as usual, with no noticeable changes. He turned the stone over in his hand, rubbing it, seeking some marking or symbol to guide him. Finding none, he lay back in his bed and simply pulled the stone from either end.
This had an instant effect, suddenly there was a whole pile of stones where one had been before. Jon stared, momentarily shocked before gravity set in and did what it does best - pulling rocks down to the ground. Specifically speaking, onto Jon.
"OW! Son of a bitch!"
Jon rolled over, pushing the pebbles into the centre of his bed and massaging his jaw, where a particularly sharp blue pumice had impacted with his face.
"Jon! What are you doing up there? Get ready now or you'll miss the bus!" Yelled his mother from somewhere downstairs.
"I'll be down in a minute! I er, just fell over some junk on the floor!" He yelled back.
"I've been telling you to clean your room for weeks, it's your own fault. Now hurry up!"
Jon pulled on some clothes and sprayed himself all over with deodorant, no time for a shower, today he'd have to go without.
He quickly gathered the stones up and swept them into a plastic container he'd hurriedly emptied. He grabbed a sticky notepad and quickly scrawled on a note "Mom! DO NOT TOUCH!" and attached it to the box, hopefully this would keep them safe while he was at school today.
He reached into the box and read some of the indented words on each rock.
"Water, animals, nightime, battle, knowledge. AHA! This'll do it." He grabbed a small rose-coloured rock labelled 'Body' and ran off to finish getting ready, his hopes high about fixing Karyn.
