Mikey skipped along the sidewalk in front of Jon as they walked. Jon couldn't help but laugh to see his brother behaving in such a girlish manner. When they arrived at the house, the party was just beginning. There were about ten or twelve kids there, mostly the girls were talking to the other girls and the boys were talking to the other boys. Normally, Mikey would've quickly made his way over to where the boys were, and talked to his best friend Jason, but he ran straight up to Jill and gave her a big hug.
"Happy birthday, girl!" he said, then looked down at her sundress. "Ooh, your dress is so cute! Where'd you get it?"
"My mom got it for me for my birthday. Your's is cute too!"
"Thanks, it was so hard to pick just one!"
The party went on like a fairly normal birthday party, 'Happy Birthday' was sung, candles were blown out, and cake was eaten. At one point, Mikey and some of the girls went up to Jill's room and Mikey borrowed a little make-up, since he didn't have any, and Jill loaned him a pair of her shoes, since he was still wearing his ratty boy's sneakers. At one point Jon had heard Mikey refer to boys as "gross", but he now seemed to be looking at his former best friend Jason a little differently. His face looked a little flushed, and Jon wasn't sure, but he thought he saw Mikey pitching a little tent in his dress...
Jon decided it was time to speed things up. He took the rock out of his pocket and held it in his hand. "I wish there was a game of spin the bottle played, and when it was Mikey's turn, it would land on Jason..."
