"Hi Jon, your turn. Ready for the informational video?" A man in a white coat gestured to the door of the projection room.
He nodded and headed inside. The projector started up. The program started rather tame, explaining why cheerleaders were important...Duh, like I didn't already know that.
Jon's eyes glazed over all of the sudden as various visual and mental cues were triggered.
"Whatever losers, don't you recognize me? It's Sarah "
They stared and squinted at her. If that was Sarah, who had they just spotted?
As for Sarah, it looked to them the fashion equivalent of someone hitting her with a truck. She didn't look like she'd showered today, or taken any significant care of her personal appearance. "What's wrong?" Sarah asked, suddenly.
"Sarah...you..."
"I guess I got a bit distracted. I'll shower in gym." Sarah was clearly still aware of personal hygiene, it just seemed to now take a backseat to whatever foreign language she was speaking in. It sounded like geek to them.
"What's happened to you?"
"What's happened to YOU?" Sarah said. "I can't believe I was ever friends with you losers. I mean...what's your combined GPA?"
The two girls just stood there, dumbfounded. It was Sarah, the basic personality was the same. But the rest of her...
"Sarah, stop insulting them," a male voice said. "I'm sorry," he said, approaching. "I think she's enjoying herself a bit too much. I'm Ted...her mentor."
"What did you do to her?" Melissa said. "She's like..."
"Yes, she is a bit...focused on her career to the exclusion of everything else." Ted shrugged. "She'll grow out of it, I'm sure. But, I bet you are confused...well, we have an informational video that will explain everything to you. I mean...you do want to understand all this, don't you?"
"Well..."
"Tell you what...watch the video, and I'll personally answer any questions you might have afterward."
Ted ushered the three girls toward the office. Sarah was a bit of a challenge. He'd had to completely deconstruct her personality. Admittedly, that was leaving a rather disgusting product, but he was working on that. He was reasonably certain that, with time, she'd smooth out some of the rough edges...and if not...there were plenty of programmers who were great at their job, but impossible to be around.
They entered just as Jon came out with Brittney-Lynne...
